I know the logical answer is to go with friends, but literally all of my close friends have partners. I don’t talk to a lot of people, but it’s not that I am a bad person. No one ever asks me out or even shows interest in me. With all of my girl and guy friends recently (within the past year) finding partners and spending so much time together as a couple, one couple even getting an apartment together, I have been so alone and it makes me depressed. I am shy enough that I don’t have the guts to ask guys out myself because I assume that they would not want to go with/date with me anyway.
My dad just assumes either I’m a huge prude (because I only had one “boyfriend” in grade 9/10) or that I’m gay, and there is nothing wrong with being gay but it’s really upsetting that he uses such terms to describe me when I would really like to have a relationship with someone.
To make things worse, my teachers are starting to obsess over what a memorable night prom is designed to be. They say that everyone should go because they will regret skipping it later, because it is a part of the high school experience and all of that.
Everyone says that I can dance with their boyfriend at the prom, but that’s not the point. It makes me seem even more pathetic that they say that, and at the end of the day it’s still their special night that I happened to tag along to.
I’ve already looked through a bunch of resolved questions and they all say the same thing. That’s not the answer I want, but I know it will be the case anyway.

I asked my guy friend to go with me so I wouldn’t be all alone. We don’t date. He agreed and then my friends decided they didn’t need to go with guys. I don’t want to go to prom with him anymore, but I don’t know how to tell him.
I’ve told him he didn’t have to go multiple times, but he insists that I’m making him. I’m not. (He’s the type that overdramatizes things. A LOT.) He’s also the type that will remember something like this forever. I don’t do well with troublesome things, but I want to have a good time, and he’s the type that could ruin prom for me. What should I tell him?
