What Are The Basics I Need To Know About Digital Cameras?

Posted by | Filed under photography | Feb 2, 2010 | Tags: , , , , , , | 3 Comments

I know less than nothing, about digital cameras. Where can I go to learn? or is it easier than I think it is?
I bought 2 cameras, one cheap 2.1 Megapixel DG “for Dummies” (I don’t even see a maker’s name, but it looks easy to operate (maybe).
I also bought a FinePix 4800 Zoom Fuji camera that looks very professional but I doubt I can even make it through the owner’s manual. It’s the kind that sits in a power dock and has tons of settings.
Help! Where do I start?

You are going to have to READ & STUDY the Owner’s Manual for your Fujifilm FinePix 4800. There really isn’t any other way to learn how to use the camera unless you can take a class in photography. You’ll still need to READ & STUDY the Owner’s Manual though.
If there are terms you don’t understand, go to http:www.dpreview.com and look at the Menu on the left side of their home page. Click on Learn/Glossary and you’ll find as explanation of all the terms associated with digital cameras.

Start by reading through the owners manual. Sit down with the camera in hand and page by page go through it. They are really made for everyone to understand and often have pictures included. Point and shoots are not made to be hard to understand. After you know how to use it, go out and take pictures, from there on out its all trial and error and experience, there really is no better way to learn, unless its directly from someone who is better than you and you are shooting with them.

seeing as you already have a camera, you’ll have to read thru the owner’s manual. like it or not, you’ll have to force yourself. while reading it, keep wikipedia open so you can search for definitions of the terms that you don’t understand.
i started with a point-and-shoot myself, and learned from the manual, wikipedia and first-hand use.
    hope this helps!
