Is It Ok To Wear This To Weddings? Proffetional…?

Posted by | Filed under photography | Feb 2, 2010 | Tags: , , , | 8 Comments

ok so my dad is a photographer and recently i started helping him at the weddings when he takes pictures. i want to shop for some new outfits to wear to the weddings. is it ok to wear like a nice dress like knee high with like 1 inch wide straps? it wouldn’t be like the $80 prom dresses. just something nice and decent. is it ok or is it not very proffetional. if i should wear something else, what kind of outfit should i wear? i am 13 (almost 14) and i have shoulder-legnth brown hair
thanks!

It’s hard to say from the description alone. Do you have a picture of that outfit or something similar?
As long as it’s modest and you’re not exposing anything, I don’t see anything wrong with it based on the description.
However most wedding photographer blogs that I have seen that show the female photographers at work have them wearing a modest top with dressy slacks nearly everytime and that looks very professional.

That sounds fine. The important thing about being at a wedding for work purposes, is you definitely don’t want to stand out. You have to be dressed as formally as the rest of the wedding goers, and you don’t want to wear something that will make you stand out. Definitely no white, and I would steer away from red too, but either way, just wear something that you can work in, but you also don’t want some other person’s pictures to have you in them while you’re wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

As a teenager that should be ok for all but the most conservative weddings. However, if you wish to look older, I’d recommend wearing a tea-length skirt, and making sure your shoulders are covered. You also may want to consider wearing trousers, as doing heavy lifting in skirts is an acquired skill, and you’ll be more comfortable if you don’t have to worry about showing skin, or if your shoes will stay on.

Professional is spelled professional. Do do NOT want to wear a dress if your photographing a wedding nor do you want to wear heals.
If hes taking you along at 13, your dad isn’t a good photographer, taking his kid with him to a professional job is never a good idea. Wait til your older and more mature. It will look a ton better for his business

That sounds like a good choice. If I were you, I’d also put a cardigan sweater on, because some places like churches require that women’s shoulders be covered. At 13, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about cleavage, but make sure that what you do have is covered – again, just in case.

I would wear a pair of nice dress slacks, a button down shirt and maybe a jacket. It doesn’t have to be boring, though. You want to be comfortable but you still want to look professional. A knee length prom dress, though cute, isn’t professional.

Yes, that would be fine. People understand that you’re working and not a guest, so you certainly don’t have to wear cocktail/formal attire. It’s lovely that you’re working with your dad.
