Well i want something with pictures that are somewhere near Professional. But i cant go over 400 dollars max. I want a digital camera, with zoom and a few effects like sepia and black and white, but i don’t need a lot of effects, just basic stuff. Does anybody have any idea as to what kind of camera i should get?

You may have to settle for a used DSLR.
Also, you will find that pros do NOT shoot their photos in black and white or sepia. If such a conversion is wanted, it is done post production where the photographer has more control over the final image.http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamer…
If you can save another $50, you can buy a brand new DSRL with lenshttp://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-18-5…

I didn’t know what camera to get either, but I ended up getting a Kodak Easyshare with the Printer dock..and I have taken some great pictures with it. it’s pretty basic and I have actually had friends buy some photos from me to hang up in there houses.. I’m am not a professional or anything, I just clicked and shoot. You have the ability to manually adjust things, but I don’t even know how to work everything on it lol. I need to take a class or get a dummies book.

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on…….
The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
    Good Luck

Given your budget – and no indication of a need for specialized lenses – maybe the following – Its a good carry all the time camera about 275. I highly suggest you look into the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 or TZ5 cameras. Click on the link below for a full description from B&H Photo:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/54…

It’s a great camera, has so many features that may interest you, has a great wide angle Leica Zoom Lens (10x Optical) and has burst shooting abilities, especially great when taking sporting shots with rapid firing needs. Also great for low lit conditions and has a large, 3” viewing screen on the back. It also can take movies with sound as well!

I used to work with Nikon cameras a lot for photography for yearbooks and newspapers. I really liked them. I’m sure you don’t want to go so high tech, a point and shoot is probably what you need. As far as point and shoots, there are two that I think are great. The first is the Nikon Cool pix and the second is the Cannon Power shot. Hopefully one of these cameras will suit your needs.
